Othello Tunnels - Distance : 5.5 km. Elevation : 363 m. Time : 2 Hours To get to this trail drive to Hope and take Othello Road east for 8 km. To the Coquihalla Canyon Recreation Area. The trail starts at the parking lot. I included this trail because of the history involved . This is a good family walk and the kids will enjoy the tunnels.Or if you are like me some days you don't want to work hard you just want to enjoy nature at it's finest.Spring run off is the best time to visit here . The tunnels are part of the Kettle Valley Railway which opened in 1916. For the times this was quite an amazing feat,one look at the canyon will tell you this was a very challenging task. A series of short tunnels had to be blasted through five different rock faces. The tunnels are 91 m. high and the cool dampness on a warm day is refreshing.If you close your eyes you can almost hear the train whistles and smell the smoke of the engines.This is also a favorite place for movie scenes. Some of the past movies shot here were;Cliffhanger,Shoot To Kill,Fire With Fire,National Dream,and Far From Home. Rating 1 View 2
