Welcome to Hiking in the Vancouver area

Most Vancouver winters are six months of rain . There is a long standing joke , "What do you call two days of rain ? " The weekend ! I like to spend the month of June on the beach soaking up some much needed sun . By the end of July most of the snow on the peaks has melted ,and the sound of the " Rats with Wings " ( seagulls ) are driving me crazy Yes it's time to hit the hills and back country . Vancouver has some of the best hiking in Canada . All of it is within easy reach of the city . Here you'll find some of my favourites . I have also posted some links , pics , tips, a few maps , and some useful forms.

Rating : 1 = easy 2 = moderate 3 = hope your in shape !
View : 1 = not much 2 = worth taking a camera 3 = outstanding !

A bit me; I started this webpage so I could share trails & trips with my fellow hikers . Some of the things I enjoy are ; hiking , photography , cooking , snowshoeing, working out at the gym , roller blading , camping ,reading ,computers, mountain biking and travelling . I work for a large soft drink bottler in Vancouver . This is a fast paced enviroment so I find my time on the trails is a great way to release stress . I moved to the west coast when I was 12 and love the fact that there are still places to explore every weekend . I also think British Columbia is " The " best place in Canada to live.

When I'm not hiking or working on this page you can find me hanging out at Club Tread   under the name " The Hiker "

Club Tread... Vancouvers largest(and best) Hiking Club.

Well 2007 is gone and things are looking good for 2008. I picked up a new Canon 40D at a very good price so looking forward to bring you some great shots of our area. As time allows I may delete some old stuff and start a Wildlife Page.

I'm still feeling the effects of some whiplash injuries so my backpacking/hiking has been limited. Things are improving and i hope to get back on the trails soon and post some new maretial.

Most lower trails are now snow free and the rains have eased off. The new bridge at the end of Buntzen lake is just about finished. The Chief in Squamish is a good bet to start your spring work-out. There is no snow on the second peak.

Well I just put up a Web Photo Gallery on Telus. I have had the space for years but never used it. Stop by and check it out. Sorry for the smallish size but I'm limited to 10mb. The link is below.

Chief Dan George of the Tseil-Waututh First Nation:

I come to You as one of Your many children.
"Great Spirit whose breath gives life to the world, hear me,
May I walk in beauty
May my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise that I may know the teachings
You have for Your children, the lessons
You have hidden in every leaf and rock."
