Vancouver Hiking

Welcome to Hiking in the Vancouver area

Most Vancouver winters are six months of rain . There is a long standing joke , "What do you call two days of rain ? " The weekend ! I like to spend the month of June on the beach soaking up some much needed sun . By the end of July most of the snow on the peaks has melted ,and the sound of the " Rats with Wings " ( seagulls ) are driving me crazy Yes it's time to hit the hills and back country . Vancouver has some of the best hiking in Canada . All of it is within easy reach of the city . Here you'll find some of my favourites . I have also posted some links , pics , tips, a few maps , and some useful forms.

Rating : 1 = easy 2 = moderate 3 = hope your in shape !
View : 1 = not much 2 = worth taking a camera 3 = outstanding !

A bit about me; I started this webpage so I could share trails & trips with my fellow hikers . Some of the things I enjoy are ; hiking , photography , cooking , snowshoeing,  roller blading , camping ,reading ,computers, mountain biking , kayaking, and travelling . I work for a large soft drink bottler in Vancouver . This is a fast paced enviroment so I find my time on the trails is a great way to release stress . I moved to the west coast when I was 12 and love the fact that there are still places to explore every weekend . I also think British Columbia is " The " best place in Canada to live.

When I'm not hiking or working on this page you can find me hanging out at Club Tread   under the name " The Hiker "

Club Tread... Vancouvers largest(and best) Hiking Club.

Backpacking: An extended form of hiking in which people carry double the
amount of gear they need for half the distance they planned to go in twice
the time it should take.

Summer has arrived on the West Coast and the snow should be gone on most of the mid elevation trails. It still is a bit early for the higher hikes but the snow is melting fast. Keep in mind that places like Mt. Seymour and Golden Ears peak have the flies out in full force. Treat yourself and pick up a cheap bug jacket or remember to put bug spray in your day pack.  Hard packed snow on Elfin lakes, Garibaldi Lake, and The Lions. The camp site at Joffery Lakes is clear but I would suggest & Ice Axe and maybe crampons if you plan to get up high. The ice is off at Wedgemont lake and if you spend the night there will be some frost if it is clear.

It's time for some adventure !

Here are a few trail updates;

Chehalis River Trail

This trail is located just on the other side of the narrow bridge at the Chehalis hatchery on Morris Valley Road near Harrison Mills. Just look for the Sasquatch Inn on your left heading east from Chilliwack(Hwy 7) and turn here. There is a small B.C. Forest Rec. Site with a few really nice camping spots. Ive been here a few times before and knew that the trail headed steeply up hill at the end of the road and went into the canyon. I could not find any info in any of my books on this trail so I thought I would do some scouting. It's a pleasent walk that takes you up the river valley and there are some nice viewpoints from the cliff tops . The trail leads to some nice pools for swimming futher up.

Me on Zoa Peak.

Chief Dan George of the Tseil-Waututh First Nation:

I come to You as one of Your many children.
"Great Spirit whose breath gives life to the world, hear me,
May I walk in beauty
May my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise that I may know the teachings
You have for Your children, the lessons
You have hidden in every leaf and rock."
